Volunteer

Dear LHMS Band Parents,

For those of you who have not yet heard, Langston Hughes Middle School has been given the honor of hosting the Solo and Ensemble Festival for our district this year. The festival is to be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 for band students. We expect several hundred elementary, middle and high school students to perform in front of the panel of judges we have assembled. In order to make this event a success, we will need many parent volunteers. We will not only need many parent volunteers, but we will need some student volunteers as well. Information for student volunteers will come later in March.

At this point we are going to start the planning process necessary to ensure a successful day for all participants. We are looking for a few adults to assume a leadership role and take responsibility for the various categories of positions we need to fill. In this role, you will be coordinating the volunteers who will be working throughout the festival. We will be using the volunteer coordinators to find the volunteers to work during the festival. The role of the coordinator is to ensure that the duties of the volunteers are clearly spelled out and explained to volunteers. We are looking for coordinators in the following areas:

  • Concessions
  • Fundraising
  • Set Up and Clean Up
  • Tabulation

We are planning our first coordinating/planning meeting for Wednesday, January 28 at 7pm in the LHMS band room. If you are willing to take on one of these coordinator positions, please e-mail me at Jordanna.Bergman@fcps.edu no later than Friday, January 16, 2009. No experience is necessary. It has been a while since Langston Hughes Middle School has hosted this event, so please join us and have fun while we learn to host the festival together!
